I've read recently it stated in relationship to child-rearing that you aren't raising a 'child' but raising an adult. One who you would hope to be a decent citizen of
this world in which we live. And so your 'rearing' should bear that in mind as you teach and discipline and so forth. I agree with that. But for us, more importantly is the fact that we are raising a citizen of Heaven. And so my job is to 'keep my mind set on the things above where Christ is'
{colossians 3:2} and while that is very easy to type in a blog post, the daily living and teaching of that is where the rubber meets the road. Or where my child meets with
Jesus. So
I'm on a quest to make that a little easier for her and me. She has to learn her shapes. She has to learn numbers. colors. animals. letters. and so on. and so on.
So...we're starting with shapes at our house. What they are
AND how the Bible includes them as well. I made some flashcards and decided to document the steps for you as well. Don't get overwhelmed by this task. It's simple. Get overwhelmed by the fact that you have to 'rightly handle the Word of Truth'
{2 Timothy 2:15} to your child...but not this craft :)
Step 1: Get some 8.5" x 11"
cardstock
Step 2: Cut to 4"x6" pieces
Step 3: Open
microsoft word and change the paper size to 4"x6". Then center your cursor and create the shape using the '
autoshapes' option at the bottom of screen. Create your shape. Type the shape's name. Then find a scripture that relates to the shape.

Step 4: Print the items on the 4"x6" pieces
Step 5: Buy some coordinating scrapbook paper to layer the flashcards on. Then cut the
patterned paper to a 5"x7" size.
Step 7: Layer the two
pieces with double-sided tape to prevent slipping when laminating.
Step 8: Don't throw away the scraps. We'll use those later :)
Step 9: Take the flashcards to
Kinkos {or any print shop} and have them laminate the
pieces. Then simply cut them out leaving a 1/4 inch border around the flashcard.
Step 10: Use them. Use them often. Let little hands find them easily. Make several sets if you will that they may be found everywhere.
There are endless ways to impart of the Word of God to our children. And while this is one way that I have chosen, yours may be different and that is okay. However, the charge to you is the same if you are follower of Christ...
Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got! Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Deuteronomy 6:5-8 {The Message}
