turkey day at mdo
last friday we got to have a 'thanksgiving snack' with baby g at her mother's day out school. us parents waited in a different room for our little indians to arrive and when georgia came traipsing in with her headdress and gobble gobble shirt and it was just about all i could take.

i barely noticed the headdress because the puffy paint shirt 4 sizes too big was pushing me over the edge. have i mentioned before that i love a pre-school craft. okay good.
so the 'snack' was lovely and i'm pretty sure harold was more excited about it than georgia and i combined. the PTA should really be on alert for him in a few years. he is some serious about his baby girl.

i love this time of year. even more so now that we have a little indian to celebrate with. we're getting ready to head out for the holiday but hopefully we'll talk again.

georgia and i had a mini-photo shoot yesterday afternoon in hopes of caturing a Christmas card picture. and i was going through the pictures this one made me take a second look. this is joy. pure. simple. joy.
The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with JOY.

girls night in
if you've been around here long enough you've seen these three friends before. they are a tight little group and fortunately we were all able to get together the other afternoon to hang out....
{maggie, sarah avery & georgia}

georgia had a great time. it took her 45 minutes to settle down after they left. she loves some company. can't blame her. i do too. really is there anything better than sharing a meal with the people you love? the last supper wasn't by chance. that is some good fellowship time :)
oh and just to be clear...the only people allowed to eat a meal topless in our house must weigh under 30 pounds. just to be clear.
well the afternoon turned to evening and we had 3 very hungry little girls so i put jojo in the high chair and we stacked phonebooks and stew pots in the chairs for the other girls so they could dine in as well. spagetti was on the menu so stripping down was necessary.

our 'temporary' space
remember me talking a few months ago about getting built-ins done??? well they were finished long ago but it has taken me a while to finish the living room. {well not completely finished yet, but anyway} so anyway, our yard sale & craigslist helped us get rid of several things that no longer worked for us. here is our living room before...
you actually see more of the dining room in that picture above, but i wanted you to notice the space beside the fireplace where the chair and lamp are. it was these spaces that we used to make our living room waaayy more user friendly...
here's the other side...
and though there is nothing really wrong with the way it was, we needed more floor space for georgia...a place for our books....a place for our computer...AND much less 'darkness'. much of what we had was sooo dark. dark wood. dark iron. dark shades. dark dark dark. and ya'll know how i feel about dark {light has no fellowship with darkness ephesians 5:11}
so here is the new, lighter version...
ahhhh. now doesn't that just feel better. phew. and way less 'stuffy'. and dark. did i say i'm so not into dark. okay good.
i love the new space. i still have to make the window treatments and our dining room isn't done yet, but who cares. i'm loving the progress thus far...
having the computer in the living room makes it so much easier to work/check email/whatever and still all be together. and our little family of 3 is very much into being together. a big ole' house would do us no good because we'd all be crammed into the same space all the time anyway....

the top shelf of the desk area was the perfect place for my etsy print i showed you last month. and the other bookcase is perfect for all our books...
and for georgia's books too. i'm not big on 'stuff' on bookshelves. i kinda think bookshelves are for books, but i changed my mind {just a tad} and managed to fit some very special pictures among the books...
and one of my favorite things is the old chest that i bought several years ago at a yardsale for 10.00 that i now use as a toy chest for jojo. it fits perfectly in the hearth of the fireplace...

and speaking of jojo...she needed somewhere to do her 17 month old stuff so i found this end table {i think} at a thrift store for 6.00. the chairs i got from a neighbor. as you'll see it's not quite as fun as it should be...

but with a little paint & fabric it turned out to be a perfect little area. well. perfect until she decided to start coloring on the wall rather than her coloring book. but in a way that is perfectly fine too.

so there you go. sorry it took so long to get the pictures up. i had to stop halfway through the process and take a break to refocus. i was starting to think and act as if this house was my home. and i was giving way too much attention to it. but thank goodness for the heavy hand that reminds me that this place is NOT my home.
"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ"
Philippians 3:20
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."
Matthew 6:19-20
have a good week. love from us all.

pics from chief and cissy's house
we had to make an impromptu trip to auburn last night for a funeral today. georgia was just here last weekend for auburn homecoming with her cousins. harold and i stayed home so when we got here last night my mom {cissy} decided to show me some pictures from their weekend.
georgia is close to talking in sentences and boy am i glad. until then, i'll depend on pictures to tell the whole story...
(obviously the hazard is more bothersome and obviously cissy doesn't remember that hotdogs are NOT recommended for toddlers because of the choking hazard and obviously i'm over-reacting because she has raised many of fine children in her days...but i'm just sayin'}
and on a lighter note...
i keep telling her that she is the bride of Christ ( Revelation 19:7-9) hopefully she'll be content with that since harold and i plan on keeping her at home with us until she is 43 and then she might have dating privledges.

i'm trying to pretend that my sweet baby child does not have a WHOLE hotdog in her hand that obviously she is enjoying. i'm not sure what is more bothersome...the ingredients or the hazard.

hope you have a good one. be back soon.

taking charge...
hi. it's me jojo. my lovely mother can't get her act together long enough to get a post done so i'm taking charge. it just had to be done. i guess she's still on a sugar high from eating all the leftover candy. who knows what her deal is, but i got some business to share. i am a whole 17 months old today. and i'm every bit of 17 months i've been told too. here is what i'm up to {in case my mother should foget to write it down somewhere else...hee hee}
-1 nap a day. usually around 2-3 hours. if i get a bath and footed pajamas after lunch you can count on 3.
-love to run. love to climb. love to fall. and my mother doesn't love any of those.
-saying two and three words together like...mommy's car gas. daddy shirt work. jojo's hat. mommy's night night. and mommy's favorite is when i say 'hole u horsies'.
-love school. can name every kid and both teachers in my class. we go through the whole list every time i get picked up.
-love to sing. my favorite song is happy birthday. we sing happy birthday to lots of people everyday.
-love the word 'no'. enough said.
-have gotten myself out of a pack-n-play and tried to get out of crib.
-working on my colors and shapes. can pick them out when i feel like it.
-and my favorite is outside. from early in the morning till dark.
so there you go. thought i'd share all my 17 month old business with you. there are lots of other things too but this is about the good, great and better right ;)

flashbacks
i used to get highlights AND flat iron my hair in college which always made for some serious dryness. so one random night i thought it would be a good idea to try a mayonnaise conditioning treatment. i was broke, it was cheap and the results promised deep conditioning. so after using a half jar of duke's mayonnaise and wrapping my head in saran wrap, i patiently waited for the results. the only result was i didn't eat mayonnaise for several months after that night and sometimes in a really hot shower i would catch a faint whiff of duke's and it would make me gag.
{kelly d. i can hear you laughing right now}
so now some ten years later and i'm afraid that ranch dressing has met the same fate as well. i gave georgia some carrots sticks and a small bowl with ranch dressing over the weekend. it was to occupy her while i finished cooking. so while being 'occupied' i heard my sweet girl saying...'hat' 'hat' 'hat'. and sure 'nough she had made herself a hat from the bowl i had just given her. the bowl that was full of ranch dressing. that bowl.
i had to grab the camera and before i could get back to her she had taken her 'hat' off and resumed eating.

we headed straight to the bath after this and i explained to her that there are several other options for hats AND for conditioning treatments if she was concerned about her frizz. she was open to suggestions.
so happy monday y'all. and if i'm coming over for breakfast/lunch/dinner anytime soon, can you please leave ranch dressing off the menu. thank you.
