the best of childhood...

if you look closely you'll see that her shirt says "run in the grass. play in the sun". that pretty much sums up our summer days. there's something particularly magical about watching a child be a child. the curiosity, laughter and joy is contagious. as is the silliness. to me these pictures represent the best of this age. clothes can be changed. water can be wasted. hair can be washed. but these smiles cannot be missed.

shame on me & a shout out

right off the bat i'll warn you that this post is random. and on top of that this picture has nothing to do with either of the things discussed. but it makes me smile because i remember that just 10 minutes before this smile she was in MAJOR meltdown mode and devastated that it was time to put on her jammies. i told her that is was night night time and she said that she 'needed her ballerina dress'. i told her she had 5 minutes and then it was jammie time. she made the most of those 5 minutes twirling and carrying on in her tutu {or ballerina dress} and then she happily let me put her pajamas on. and as a result we both smiled until bedtime.

now of greater importance...a shout out. a very special birthday wish we send to grandma today. and although she's a state away we're celebrating and will be having skittles today in her honor. she'll be trilled. happy birthday grandma. muuuuaaaaaaahhhhhh.................

and lastly. the shame on me part. i have a confession. or a problem. it's snacking and diet coke. i'm serious. i love a snack. and i love a diet coke. neither of these would be a problem in itself but they've turned me into a non-water drinking, snacking instead of actually eating, bloated fool. and speaking of birthdays, i have coming in exactly one month. so i'm saying it here {as much as i don't want to and am already having withdrawals} anyway, i'm saying it. until my birthday...

1. i will not snack. 3 meals a day. period.

2. i will not drink a diet coke. period. {this is so hard to type. i 'm starting to sweat}

i'm serious bout this. stay tuned. i'll keep you updated on the progress. and just for fun i'll weigh today so that we both can see how much damage my little habit was causing. i won't weigh again until my birthday. it should be fun to see the difference.

okay, i think i'm done here. and if you're still reading i'm very impressed. we're off to meet georgia's new mother's day out teacher. it starts next week and i'm a little bittersweet. that's a whole other post though. gotta run...

embrace the camera {a day late} - august 27

the mild temperatures this week have handed over plenty of opportunity for outdoor family time. we've taken full advantage & plenty of pictures. and you'd be proud to know that georgia is becoming quite the photographer too. the middle picture of harold & i is taken by little miss herself. i just had to help her hold arm up since the camera is a little heavy. she finally is able to get her subjects somewhat in the picture. that's progress i'd say...

because i'm always up to something...

i need another project like i need a hole in my head. but sometimes i just can't help it. and since the Favorite Foods Friday event was such a success {so much so that my friends have decided that want to do it each month} i've decided to make it easy for anyone with the desire to host one their neighborhood. much of the hesitation i hear is that moms don' t have the time to pull all the pieces together. well....here you go. everything you'll need can be delivered to your doorstep. except the friends, food & fun of course. i'm super excited about this and i'll be on the local Fox station in the morning talking about it as well and hopefully won't embarrass myself talking 90mph.

so anyway, here you go:

i've also created another blog:

http://favoritefoodsfriday.blogspot.com

i'll be posting recipes, info related to kid's health and of course pictures and tips from all the Favorite Foods parties we feature. and to get your own favorite foods friday party set {which is so doesn't have to be on a friday} click on the link in the right sidebar. it will take you to etsy for the full description.

be back sooner than later....

harold...

it's 8:14 a.m. and she's already wanted to lift the blinds to see if your coming home. guess she misses you extra today. and while i'm typing this she is crying saying she wants daddy. i guess the 4 minutes it's taken me to post this has upset her so she's done with me now. you know how patient she is ;)

love you tons. see you this afternoon.

BABYPALOOZA

i have starting working again as an editore for alabama baby magazine. ironically enough, i worked for them before georgia so now, as you can imagine, i have lots more to contribute. anyway, this week is our biggest week. it's baby week! it's where we will have segments on Fox each morning building up the hype to this saturday with BABYPOOLZA. if you're clueless, Babypoolza is a huge expo (thousands of attendees) where shopping, information and fun all happen together. it's also known for it's prize giveaways like a BOB stroller....Kalencom diaper bags....photography sessions....gift certificates....nap nannies....and TONS more. we have gifts that will be given away hourly and a huge grand prize at the end of the day. it's seriously the most fun.

if you are anywhere near the Birmingham area swing by. and don't think you must be pregnant to benefit. this is a family event with stuff for all. and shopping too. you won't be sorry. and if seeing my face isn't incentive enough, there will be free chik-fil-a biscuits. that always works...

a few funny things

so i can remember...
me: you better not give daddy all my kisses
her: {while kissing him over and over again} we're married

me: where were you born
her: at barnes and noble

me: baby, just lick that sucker. don't bite it.
her: you bite it with your molars {and hands it to me to bite}

me: want me to go under {meaning go underwater to show her how to swim}
her: you better hold your mouth breath

me: do you know how much i love you
her: more than all the bandaids

me: what do you want me to draw
her: i will draw your name

me: what is your memory verse this week
her: we saw america flag at da mall {not sure why she always associates the flag with her weekly bible verse but she does}

i'll add more as i recall, but wanted to journal as i remember. more interesting posts coming soon...

today...

okay. we've had the best morning. remember me telling you about something fun we had coming up? well it was today. a few weeks ago i woke up one morning thinking about all the conversations i have with other moms about what our children eat/don't eat...like/don't like and we're always asking each other for ideas so i thought...what better way than to get us all together for some food & fun {and hopefully a few recipes for things our kids will eat}. so it all started with this invite...

as you can read, the guests were to bring one dish that incorporated a fruit or vegetable that their kid enjoys. then make recipe cards for all of us in case our kid enjoyed it as well. healthful, tried & approved recipes is what i was after. i already knew what i was making {recipe to come later} and i couldn't wait to see what others would show up with.

so georgia and i got the cups ready for berry banana smoothies...

set the table for all our guests...

found outfits to coordinate with the decor {can you say nerd}...

and waited for the party to start. i sent the tent cards with the invites so that when our guests showed up with their food we could all identify what it was. and boy were there some yummy things...

pizza bites...spinach egg muffins...asian noodles with tofu cubes...and my favorite.. the 'health-by-chocolate cookies. they have pureed spinach and blueberries in them and you'd never know. yum. yum.
the kids had a great time eating and being together. my little ham loves a friend over so when there is 6 of them over, she can't take it. permanent smile. she gets is honest. we love a party....
the result was good and all of us left with a some things to try for our own family. as i told my friends today before i prayed for our time together, we all have the same desire...to raise healthy kids. spiritually and physically. and we need each other. for encouragement and wisdom and humor and just plain friendship. that was my whole goal today. to be together. to walk one step in this journey together. today we walked together at lunch. the Lord will honor our time together and our efforts. this i know.
and because i couldn't resist, i made each child a tag for their lunchbox. a little something special to say thank you for coming...
and also a little something that didn't include a fruit or vegetable. but lots of butter and sugar and sprinkles...

told you it was fun huh? wish you all could have been here with us. for those of you with small children, i encourage you to do the same with your group of friends. you'll be blessed and full. hope you all have a great weekend. love from us all....
'But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today...'

embrace the camera - august 12

this week i decided that we'd embrace the camera doing what we do best...
here we are chillin' and snackin'. which we're both pros at.

and here they are dancing after bath time. which they're pros at.
*and could i just add that the 'jump-o-lene' seen here in the background has officially died. poor georgia. it didn't last long {which makes me happy and sad}.
goodbye ginormous jumpy house. hello living room.

us

she walked around like this for so long yesterday and i kept saying 'dude, it's 101 degrees outside'. she laughed. i began to sweat. we are quite the pair i tell ya. if anyone ever bugs our house and hears/sees our shenanigans, we'll be labeled as weirddddd-oooooos. weird weird weird. and hot and sweaty.

her jeeew-reeee

you say jewelry. we say jeeeeww-reeeee. either way georgia has discovered it for herself and become quite the lover. and what is it about girls that when they put on some costume jewelry they all of a sudden feel extra girly? and sassy.

she has even figured out how to hold her arm up so that her bracelet doesn't fall off when she plays. i was impressed. i mean that's some serious know how. and can i just say that i realize her hair is all over the place in these pictures but they are after-nap/end-of-the-day pictures while we were hanging at home. don't be thinking that we roll out looking this way. just sayin'.

day two. jeeew-reee again. i've made her put it up each day in a silver cup on her bookcase and don't you know that she has been so particular to follow instructions to put those earrings and necklace in their proper place. she ain't taking the risk to lose her treasure. and speaking of treasures, why on earth are these plastic pieces of jewelry so darn pricey? darn disney. well the necklace does talk if you press the button {which she's doing above}. i don't buy toys that talk to her so you can imagine my excitement when i figured this out at home.

i told her how beautiful her earrings were and please look at the way she touched them and pursed her lips to confirm what i was saying. seriously, who teaches us these things? but here's what i can't get past. she had gotten onto her daddy's lap to show him her new digs. he was lavishing the compliments and she was soaking it all in. that was until i asked to take their picture. this was the look i got...

she cut her eyes at me as if to say that she was busy getting all his attention and i need not bother them. thank goodness he has enough love and affection for both of us or i'd be in some serious trouble.

embrace the camera - august 5

nothing particularly special about the pic today. being her mother however, is particularly special.

boredom or imagination

i couldn't decide whether georgia was just bored to death or having her way with imagination, either way i didn't have the heart to tell her that her attempts at riding her pony were futile. every time that poor pony would topple underneath her she would get so upset and i would get so tickled. which didn't help. by the time this little fiasco was over we both were in hysterics. for different reasons though.

on another note, i have something really really fun coming up and can't wait to share. here's a peek...

be back tomorrow for embrace the camera thursday. love from the ham...{which georgia calls is too.}

‘tha puffs’ afterparty

july 30 2010 007

july 30 2010 004

july 30 2010 008

july 30 2010 031

this is what happens when you let the puffs out. she's going to kill me one day for posting these but who could resist. her blond tight curls are such a contrast to my dark straight hair and i love it so much. we couldn't be more different yet we couldn't be more the same.

happy monday friends....
